Averil M. Neff
Averil M. Neff, 92, of the Village of North Oakland, Chicora, died at 3:37 p.m. Monday in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 24, 1918, in Clearfield Township, she was the daughter of the late Leo Black and the late Clare F. O'Donnell Black.
Averil was a 1936 graduate of Butler High School and was a 1939 graduate of the Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Beaver Falls, where she completed studies and became a registered nurse.
She was a member of the St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, Carbon Center, and a member of the Christian Mothers of the church.
She worked with the blood bank in Chicora for more than 20 years.
She was a member of the AARP, a life member of the Tanglewood Center in Lyndora and a member of the Chicora Senior Center.
Surviving are her husband, Regis P. Neff, who she married Jan. 16, 1943; two daughters, Ruth Ann Douthett and her husband, David, of Butler, and Jeanne Aubrey and her husband, John, of Butler; two sons, David Neff and his wife, Deborah, of Chicora, and Ronald Neff and his wife, Martha, of Chicora; 11 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; a step-great-granddaughter; a step-great-grandson; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert A. Black, and a sister, Grace Black Profota.
<B>NEFF</B> — Friends of Averil M. Neff, who died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets in Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, 210 St. Wendelin Road, Carbon Center, with the Rev. Steven Neff, pastor, officiating.
