Macurdy

Miss Gladys "Kate" Macurdy, 85, of Buffalo Township, died peacefully at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia in Cabot.

Kate was born Nov. 26, 1924 in Buffalo Township the daughter of the late Arthur I and Agnes (Denny) Macurdy.

She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Freeport.

Kate had worked in the shipping department at the Liberty Mirror Co. in Brackenridge for many years. She also had worked at the Twindow division at PPG in Creighton.

Kate was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Freeport and then in Vandergrift. She was a member of the Freeport Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed bingo and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her brother Donald A. (Charmaine) Macurdy of Buffalo Township; three sisters, Marian Stempkoski of Natrona, Stella Romano of Lower Burrell and Maxine Kowalski of Natrona; her nephew and caregiver, Brent L. Ohl of Buffalo Township. She also is survived by 16 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Kate was preceded in death by her sister Norma Jean Ohl who died in 2001; a nephew Ted "Teddy" Stempkoski; two brothers-in-law, Michael Romano and Theodore Stempkoski; and her very good friend, Al Strama.

<B>MACURDY</B> — Family and friends of Gladys "Kate" Macurdy, who died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the <B>Redmond Funeral Home</B>, 524 High St., Freeport. A parish wake service will be held in the funeral home this evening.A parting prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
