Butler’s boys track and field team tallied 134 points in running away with the Tri-State Track and Field Coaches Association team championship Thursday at West Mifflin.

More than 50 schools competed in the meet, which was delayed for a couple of hours because of stormy weather early in the day.

Presley Ornelas won both hurdle events for the Golden Tornado. Tyler Rekich won the javelin and Drew Griffith took the 800 meters. Guinness Brown won the 400.

Butler swept all three relay events as well. The mile relay foursome of Brown, Lucas Slear, Carson Knight and Ryder Kriley ran the fastest time in the state so far this outdoor season at 3 minutes, 22.43 seconds. The 4x800 relay team of Kriley, Knight, Sage Vavro and CJ Singleton ran the second fastest time in the state at 7:57.57.

The Golden Tornado’s girls track and field team grabbed the runner-up spot at the same meet. Megan Baggetta won the triple jump with a leap of 37-2.25 and the 3,200-meter relay group of Madi McGarrah, Aubree Tack, Lauren Bowden, and Jen Cichra finished second. The 400 relay made up of Chloe Weiland, Alli Morrow, Justine Forbes, and Aubrey Rock placed second, as well.

Cody Daniels won three events overall for Moniteau as the Warriors spit a triangular with Sharpsville and Keystone Wednesday. The Warrior boys decfeated Sharpsville 83-67 and dropped a 96-54 decision to Keystone.

Daniels won the 110-meter hurdles, long jump and high jump.

Baseball

A late-inning Butler surge powered the Golden Tornado to a 14-6 non-section win over Armstrong Thursday night.

Butler (7-1) trailed by three after the fifth frame, but put across 11 over their next two turns at the plate. Madden Clement, Colin Patterson, Brady Gavula, Ethan Trettel, and Lance Slater all had multi-hit performances. Gavula totaled five RBIs and scored two runs himself.

Softball

Seneca Valley belted five home runs Thursday in rolling to a 19-2 victory over Plum in five innings.

Winning pitcher Lexie Hames, who struck out seven and tossed a two-hitter, homered twice for the Raiders. Maddie Gross hit a pair of homers as well and Kara Pasquale homered.

The Raiders return to action Tuesday at North Hills.

Avah Burke and Meah Ielease both tripled and singled for the Falcons (1-1), who play at Redbank Valley on Monday.

Knoch 5, Kiski 2 — Carissa Tekely and Sennett Purcell each banged out a pair of singles and the Knights totaled 10 base hits in this home win over the Cavaliers. Brynnae Coe and Sylvia Luffy split time on the mound, both striking five out.

Madi Gardner, Brynne Smith, Sophie Brandon, and Luffy all drove a run in.
