Wedding plans go on despite nearby rally

Ceremony, reception held at nature park

PENN TWP — When two couples planned their big day at the Succop Nature Park on Airport Road, they had no idea a huge, historic event would happen less than a mile away.

A wedding ceremony was held at the nature park at 2 p.m. Saturday, just as throngs of jubilant supporters of President Donald Trump were arriving at the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport for the rally held there.

A reception for another couple occurred at 4:30 p.m. while police cars with lights deployed ensured Airport Road remained closed to traffic.

Madison Frafinelli, event assistant at the nature park in Penn Township, said the couple having the reception decided against rescheduling.

Alternative plans included busing the wedding party and guests from the nearby church where the couple was married because parking at the nature park was not allowed by the Secret Service.

Regarding the earlier wedding ceremony, the entire party, including the wedding party and guests, totalled just seven people.

The entire group piled into one car on the advice of police, who let the vehicle onto Airport Road so they could enter the nature park.

Frafinelli said she was not upset at the quickly planned political rally or its effect on the nature park.

“I personally like Donald Trump, so I don't mind,” she said. “I like to see all the people coming and supporting him.”

She said the music and speakers at the rally could be heard at the nature park due to the powerful public address system at the airport.

“It reflects over here,” Frafinelli said prior to the events. “Hopefully it doesn't get too loud.”
