BUTLER TWP — A Butler man was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent head, face and neck injuries after his truck went off Meridian Road on Tuesday morning and hit a tree.

Township police identified the driver as George Henry Diamond, 60.

His condition was unavailable.

Dave Bestwick, assistant fire chief for Butler Township Fire District 3, said Diamond was removed from his vehicle — a red, GMC Sierra — shortly after the crash, which occurred around 8:45 a.m.

Bestwick said the driver was semi-conscious and didn’t respond to a question regarding the cause of the accident.

Township police report the cause has not been established.

Bestwick said emergency responders called for a helicopter to respond to the accident, but one wasn’t available because of fog.

The accident briefly shut down Meridian Road near its intersection with Powder Mill Run Road, as emergency responders worked to remove the truck from the road’s western hillside, where it had smashed into a tree.

South Butler Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
