JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Landfill is looking to expand.

Seneca Landfill plans to apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for approval to use 71.1 acres of its property to expand its landfill in what Edward Vogel, a vice president at Vogel Disposal, called a normal part of the business.

Seneca Landfill belongs to the Vogel Family of Companies.

The property and the acreage in question is on Hartmann Road in Jackson Township and is within the current permit area.

Vogel said these applications are made every few years as the landfill expands and older permits expire.

“We filed for an expansion,” he said. “You get so many acres approved and you fill the site. It’s a normal course of business and operating.”

The application doesn’t contain anything out of the ordinary, Vogel said, and the company does not expect to run into any issues having the application approved.

Seneca has notified the township, which is permitted to comment if it wishes. Area residents may also submit comments to the DEP if they so choose.

Copies of the application will be available at the Northwest Regional Office of the DEP between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
