Two Butler men are accused of making a drug deal during a surveillance detail by county narcotics officers this month.

The Butler County Drug Task Force said they caught alleged seller and buyer red handed at about 7:30 p.m. May 4 on East Brady Street.

Shawn O. Hardesty, 50, is charged with felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.

Craig A. Wehr, 39, is also charged with misdemeanor possession.

Police charged both men May 11.

District Judge William Fullerton issued an arrest warrant for Hardesty. Wehr is charged by summons and is awaiting his preliminary hearing June 11.

The task force said they were conducting surveillance of suspected drug activity in Butler on May 4 when they spotted the defendants making an alleged hand-to-hand deal on East Brady Street near McKean Street.

Officers stopped both men, according to court documents, and found Wehr with crack cocaine and Hardesty with $130 in currency.

Hardesty later admitted he sold the drugs to Wehr, investigators said. He claimed another man who he only knew by the street name “Bro” had given him crack to sell to Wehr.

In return, documents said, he told officers that “Bro” was to give him $20.
