Camera found in restroom
A police investigation continues into a camera found in a Target restroom in Gibsonia, including interest in a Butler County resident.
Northern Regional Police said the camera was found by a store employee in a unisex, singular-use bathroom. The camera resembled a USB charging port.
“(The witness) noticed a light and thought that was a little strange,” said North Regional Police Chief John Sicilia.
Police said the employees met to discuss the camera, and a male employee, who is a resident of Center Township, allegedly removed something witnesses said could have been an SD card.
Sicilia said police conducted a search of the man's home hours later.
“We were unable to find any evidence linking him to the camera,” he said.
Sicilia said the camera was found around 2 p.m. Monday, but his department was not notified until 7 p.m. by the relative of a store employee.
He said police received no word from Target about the finding and were told company policy prevented the sharing of employee information.
Sicilia said his department received a warrant for the witness' information, which led them to their suspect.
Police sent the camera for analysis to determine if it has an internal hard drive.
Sicilia said the investigation is ongoing, and other leads are being followed.
“Target is cooperating and providing us with interior surveillance,” he said.
Sicilia said the easiest way to bring the case to a close would be to find the SD card from the camera. He said it would likely set other minds at ease too.
“I'm sure there's a lot of nervous people wondering if their image was captured,” Sicilia said. “We won't know until we locate that.”
