A-C Valley’s softball team began its season in dramatic fashion Monday afternoon.

The Falcons earned a walk-off victory when Mackenzie Parks belted a two-run home run, lifting the team to an 8-7 victory over Clarion-Limestone.

Parks went 4-for-4 on the day and also earned the pitching win, striking out four and walking three in a complete game.

Avah Burke doubled twice and scored three times for the Falcons, who led 4-0 after one inning.

The Falcons had their first four games of the season postponed due to inclement weather.

Karns City 10, Redbank Valley 0 — Marra Patton hit two home runs while Jada Polczynski and Rossi McMillen both had one as the Gremlins crushed the visiting Bulldogs.

Patton earned the win in the circle, allowing just one hit in 4 1/3 innings. Allison Walker closed the game by striking out the three batters she faced.

Knoch 16, Greensburg Salem 2 — Madi Gardner and Taylor Davis both collected three hits to help the Knights cruise past the Golden Lions.

One of Gardner’s hits was a home run and she finished with three RBI. Brynne Smith singled, doubled and drove in two.

Highlands 12, Freeport 2 — The Yellowjackets were overwhelmed by five home runs from the Golden Rams, three off the bat of Abby Deiseroth.

Sydney Selker doubled and singled for Freeport.

Wilmington 15, Slippery Rock 0 — Wilmington pitcher Ava Williamson no-hit the Rockets, finishing the four-inning game with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Baseball

Cole Sherwin allowed just one run on two hits, throwing 81 pitches in a complete-game, 2-1 victory over Redbank Valley at Pullman Park.

The Gremlins tallied only three hits themselves. Hunter Troutman singled twice and drove in a run while Jacob Callihan had a base hit.
