CLAY TWP — Two Concord Township men are accused of driving dangerously aboard motorcycles on Route 8 and pulling away from state police at estimated speeds of more than 100 mph.

Joseph J. Dingfelder, 24, and Levi C. Ifft, 25, face hearings next month on one criminal charge each and a list of other traffic violations.

Police said a patrol trooper was traveling Route 8 near Benbrook Road about 11:10 p.m. July 27 when he spotted two motorcycles passing a vehicle on both sides.

One cycle passed on the right berm and the other on the left on the wrong side of the yellow line,

The trooper turned on his emergency lights and siren, according to court documents, but when he tried to stop the cyclists, they accelerated.

While pursuing the bikers northbound, the trooper saw them illegally pass three more vehicles.

For at least a mile, Trooper Philip Treadway said in his affidavit, “my patrol unit maintained in excess of 110 mph in a posted 55 mph zone and the motorcycles continued to pull away.”

Ifft, driving a Harley-Davidson, eventually stopped near Euclid Road. The other driver, later identified as Dingfelder, police said, sped away on a Yamaha.

Police said Ifft claimed he did not know why Treadway had his lights and siren on, and that he was “only trying to keep up with the other motorcycle.”

Treadway said the next day he spoke to Dingfelder, who admitted that he was the other cyclist. He said that after he saw police stop Ifft, he continued on his way home.

Both defendants are charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, a misdemeanor.

The also are each charged with speeding, driving at an unsafe speed, passing a vehicle when prohibited, passing a vehicle in the same lane, unsafely changing lanes, following too closely to another vehicle, careless driving and reckless driving.

Additionally, Dingfelder was cited for driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a motorcycle license and unsafely passing a vehicle on the left; and Ifft was cited for unsafely passing a vehicle on the right.
