CHERRY TWP — At the Moniteau School Board meeting Monday night, Kathy McBride, board president, confirmed that Michael Sean Arney will start March 17 as the new district superintendent.
Until then, Arney is completing his commitment as assistant superintendent for the Upper Perkiomen School District in Montgomery County, northwest of Philadelphia.
The board approved his hiring at its Jan. 9 meeting.
Also on Monday night, Jeff Campbell, director of buildings and grounds, said the district has not had any problem with water used at its schools. Nevertheless, he announced the district’s website now includes results of the previous month’s daily testing and results of annual testing of school water.
“We were planning to post the monthly lab results and daily operations sheets before the tragedy at Summit,” Campbell said.
High lead levels in the water at Summit Elementary School in the Butler School District has prompted the school board to transfer all students and staff to Broad Street Elementary School. That building had been closed under a districtwide consolidation plan.
The most recent lead and copper testing at Moniteau schools was in September 2016.
“Our lead and copper is required to be tested every three years but we are going to implement annual voluntary testing,” Campbell said.
Campbell said the state Department of Environmental Protection tells schools when to sample, how to sample and what to do in case there are undesirable results.
He said information for public water and sewage systems is available to anyone through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Drinking Water Electronic Lab Reporting System.
