Women hurt in head-on crash

Two drivers were flown by medical helicopter for treatment following a head-on collision on Route 68 in Butler Township late Tuesday morning.

BUTLER TWP — Two women were transported by separate helicopters to hospitals Tuesday after a head-on collision at about 11:30 a.m. on the East Jefferson Street Bridge.

Township police Lt. Matthew Pearson said a vehicle driven by Lisa Blake, 36, of Butler was traveling west on Route 68 when it crossed into the eastbound lane and hit a vehicle driven by Susan Daniels, 64, of Chicora.

Both drivers were airlifted to Pittsburgh-area hospitals for treatment of unknown injuries. Daniels was transported to Allegheny General Hospital and Blake to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

The condition of the women was not immediately known. An AGH spokesman confirmed that Daniels was a patient but declined to provide her condition Tuesday afternoon.

The cars, a Toyota Corolla and a Nissan Maxima, both sustained heavy damage to the front driver's sides and were towed.The bridge was closed until about 1 p.m. Tuesday as police investigated the cause of the crash and emergency responders cleaned debris from the road.Pearson said the crash was still under investigation Tuesday afternoon. No further information was available.No charges were filed Tuesday.

Police said both vehicles involved in Tuesday's crash received heavy damage.
