Woman hiker rescued after falling 30 feet at McConnells Mill

A woman was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital after she fell about 30 feet near Kildoo Falls in McConnells Mill State Park on Sunday night.

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — A woman in her 30s was rescued from near Kildoo Falls in McConnells Mill State Park around 7 p.m. Sunday after falling about 30 feet.

Her name and condition were not immediately released by park staff. One witness said he and others in the park heard screams after the incident and called 911.

She was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Slippery Rock Township Fire Chief George Johnson said firefighters used ropes and a Stokes basket to get her out of the gorge as quickly as possible. Johnson said the department performs rescues at the park every year — and most falls are a result of hikers straying off the trails.

Also responding to Sunday's call were Scott Township and Portersville Muddy Creek Township fire departments and the Slippery Rock and Portersville Muddy Creek ambulance services.
