4:30 p.m. Friday — David M. Byers, 52, of Butler was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, 52-year-old Joy Gregg of Butler, at a North Monroe Street home. Police said Byers was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,000 bail.4:30 p.m. Tuesday — No one was injured in a three-car, chain-reaction accident on West Penn Street. The crash occurred when a car driven by Erin C. Torres, 20, of Butler struck the rear of a car driven by Jordis Hamilton, 68, of Butler.The collision forced Hamilton's vehicle into the rear of a car driven by Marilyn Suchy, 49, of Mercer. Police said Torres reported problems with her car's brakes.5:32 a.m. May 29 — A garbage truck driven by Thomas Sawicki, 31, of Valencia backed into and broke a utility pole on North Cedar Street. The pole's top portion, which held a transformer, fell on top of the truck. Sawicki was not hurt.

5:51 p.m. Sunday — Two people were hurt, one seriously, when their motorcycle struck a concrete curb and crashed at Route 268 and Hooker Road in Karns City.Paul Fotheringham, 48, of Kittanning, who was driving the cycle, was flown by medical helicopter to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with major injuries, police said. Jennifer Ion, 29, of Kittanning, a passenger, suffered only minor injuries.6 a.m. Sunday — A car driven by Richard L. Herr, 54, of Oberlin, Ohio, struck a deer on Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township.5:25 a.m. Sunday — A car driven by Nicholas T. Brown, 18, of Bradford crashed into a guardrail on I-79 in Worth Township. Chad L. McCool, 22, of Bradford, a passenger, suffered a minor injury. Police said Brown was cited for careless driving.2:47 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Kirkwood Kristopher, 24, of Kittanning struck the rear of another car on Route 8 near Turk Road in Brady Township. Michael C. Waibel, 60, of Slippery Rock, the other driver, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for a minor injury.Kristopher, police said, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.Saturday — Someone stole a battery from a lawn mower at a Sutton Lane home in Slippery Rock Township. The theft occurred between noon Friday and noon Saturday.7:03 a.m. Friday — An unidentified vehicle struck a fence along Landgraf Road in Donegal Township. The unknown driver did not stop after the crash.Friday — An unknown thief forged a Butler County man's signature on a check, and cashed the check for $450 at a bank in Penn Township.Friday — A Sony PlayStation 2 console and several video games were stolen between 6 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday from a Davis Road home in Oakland Township.11:13 a.m. Thursday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Allison J. Born, 23, of Valencia struck an embankment on Jack Road in Clinton Township. The SUV traveled across the other side of the road and hit another embankment.Born, who was not wearing a seat belt, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Police said Born faces tickets for driving too fast for conditions and a seat belt violation.
