Coleton Welter had nine kills and 14 passes Thursday night as Butler’s boys volleyball team remained undefeated with a 3-0 victory at North Hills.

Scores were 25-17, 25-22, 25-21.

Campbell Ray had 19 assists for the Golden Tornado (3-0, 2-0) while Tyler Figioli had nine digs.

Butler defeated Pine-Richland at home Tuesday night in three sets, the scores being 25-20, 25-20, 25-19. Welter posted 16 kills and Figioli 15 digs.

The Golden Tornado host Shaler Tuesday night.

Softball

Hickory jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, then added three runs in the sixth for a 6-1 home victory over Slippery Rock.

Anna Greer had a double and single for the Rockets, who managed only four hits. Paige Gresgott struck out four in six innings for Slippery Rock in a losing cause.

Avonworth 7, Knoch 4 — The Knights dropped their second straight game despite three hits and three RBI by Lindsey Edwards. She homered and doubled.

Madi Gardner and Sennett Purcell both had hits, Gardner collecting an RBI.

Track and Field

Tessa Szymanski won the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races for Slippery Rock as the Rocket girls opened their dual meet season with a 78-72 win over Grove City. Levi Prementine won both hurdle events and Seaton Wozniak claimed the shot put and discus, but the Slippery Rock boys dropped a 76-74 decision.
