Seneca Valley broke out the long ball in winning its softball season opener Wednesday at Mars.

Maddie Gross, Lexi Hames and Hayley Walter all homered for the Raiders in a 15-5 victory. Seneca Valley had 16 hits in the game.

Hames, a freshman, pitched the final 2.2 innings of the five-inning contest and allowed no runs and no hits. The Raiders host Canon-McMillan Friday.

Shaler 12, Knoch 2 — Lindsey Edwards doubled home the only two runs for the Knights in their season opener. Knoch was limited to six hits. Brynne Smith had a pair of singles.

Megan Povich had three hits — including a homer and double — and three RBI for Shaler. Mallory Moran homered and had three RBI.

Grove City 10, Slippery Rock 4 — Paige Gresgott struck out eight in six innings for the Rockets in a losing cause. Ciana D’Antoni homered for Slippery Rock and had two hits on the day.

Slippery Rock scored twice in the top of the first inning, but Grove City had an 8-2 lead through four frames.

Track and Field

Rossi McMillen won the 100-meter hurdles, 200 meters and high jump Wednesday as Karns City’s girls defeated Union/A-C Valley, 111-38.

The Falcon Knights’ Baylee Blauser won the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump.

Karns City’s boys won two of three relays and two of three jumps in defeating Union/A-C Valley, 93-57, in a season-opening meet Wednesday.
