CRANBERRY TWP — Things were slow or steady, and relatively uneventful for poll workers who were in voting precincts that were split by the state's new congressional map.

Poll workers in Cranberry's West 2 voting precinct said things were steady at the Cranberry Senior Center, with about 10 percent of area voters casting a ballot by about 1 p.m.

The township was split between Congressional District 16 and 17 in the map laid out by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, after the map drawn by state legislators in 2011 was ruled an unconstitutional gerrymander earlier this year.

Four of the township's nine voting precincts were split by the map laid out by the court.

This means poll workers in the precincts that were split have two books in which to locate voters — one for each congressional district.

It took poll workers a little longer to find names, as most voters didn't know which district they were in. But it went smoothly, poll workers said at Cranberry West 2.

The township developed an online tool last month to help voters find which congressional district they were in, after the new map created some confusion.

Cranberry East 2 and 3 and West 1 and 2 are split between the two congressional districts. Cranberry East 1 is in District 16. Cranberry West 3, 4, 5 and 6 are in District 17.
