SV's Vogt makes PIAA golf regional

Seneca Valley's Matt Vogt carded a 77 to place 13th at the WPIAL Golf Championship at Diamond Run Tuesday.

Vogt shot an even-par 35 on the front nine to help him qualify for the PIAA Western Region final next Wednesday at Toms Run in Blairsville.

Adam Stawski of Plum was the champion by firing a 70.

In all, 24 golfers will advance to Wednesday's western final.

Mars' Christian Locher was the other Butler County golfer in the field, but he missed the cut with an 86.

District 10 qualifier — Grove City's Ryan Prokay shot a 76 Tuesday at Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex to become one of eight golfers to qualify for the PIAA West Region final.On the girls side, Slippery Rock's Jenna Rinker shot an 81 to finish second in the District 10 qualifier at Riverside Golf Club in Cambridge Springs. She is one of four girls to advance to the West Regional.Tim Chavez was Slippery Rock's highest finishing male golfer, carding an 81 to tie for 21st out of 64 golfers.

Freeport 200, Summit Academy 287 — Clayton Smith and Dane Bargerstock carded 37s to lead the Yellowjackets (14-4, 12-2) to the section victory.Steven Richardson paced the Knights with a 48.Freeport will play in the WPIAL semifinals Friday.

Millie McKain scored twice and Christina Endlish added one goal as the Karns City girls soccer team defeated visiting Brookville 3-0 Tuesday.Alaina Burns tallied the shutout in net for the Gremlins (10-4).

<B>Karns City 3, A-C Valley 0 — </B>The Gremlins posted wins of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17. Erika Rothen paced the Falcons (9-2, 7-2) with nine kills while Samantha Kerlin had six kills and a block, Karly Kaufman had five kills and three blocks, and Kelly Davis had 19 assists.The Gremlins also won the junior varsity game, 25-20, 25-11.Statistics on Karns City players were not provided.

There were 94 total runners.Mars girls won the junior varsity meet and had the top two overall runners: Carly Clark in 23:02 and Salina Smialek in 23:58. Mars boys were third in the JV meet and had the top two finishers: Sean Gannon in 19:49, Chris Hardt in 19:50.
