1:01 a.m. today — A Butler man was arrested after leading police on a brief chase around several city streets. The suspect, Jeremy P. Lefever, 37, was nabbed a short time after he got out of the vehicle and took off running.Lefever was placed in the Butler County Prison to await arraignment on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license-DUI, reckless driving and not stopping at a red light.Police on patrol said they spotted the defendant run the red light at Jefferson and Main streets. A short time later the car ended up going the wrong way on North Cedar Street.Lefever would not stop for officers and continued southbound on North McKean Street and then eastbound on East Locust Street, according to a police report. The chase covered three-tenths of a mile.The defendant eventually parked his car in a lot off North Cliff Street in back of the Friedman's supermarket on East Brady Street and ran away, police said. However, officers caught him a short time later.Police, meanwhile, cited Lefever's girlfriend, Alicia Kniess, 21, of Butler, who owns the car, for allowing an unauthorized person to drive the vehicle.10:08 p.m. June 30 — James A. Fleischer, 30, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his car struck a Dumpster behind Friedman's supermarket on West Brady Street.Police said that in addition to DUI, Fleischer was cited for driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, driving with suspended registration and careless driving.
4:48 a.m. Tuesday — Two vandals damaged a door locking mechanism while trying to break into the concession stand at Alameda Park.A patrol officer spotted the unknown suspects in front of the stand but they got away. Police later discovered the suspects had written an obscene word on the sidewalk near the stand.
Monday — An unknown thief stole a Rimersburg man's canoe on Summerville Road in Toby Township. The theft happened between June 26 and Monday.Tuesday — Someone between Friday and Tuesday stole prescription medication from a home on Hillis Road in Toby Township.1:49 a.m. Sunday — Fire destroyed a wood-frame barn on Monterey Road in Toby Township. Damage was estimated at $80,000. The state police fire marshal's office is investigating the blaze.Police said Scott Stewart of Rimersburg was renting the barn that was owned by Christine Kribble of Callensburg.Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police at 814-226-1710.9:26 p.m. July 3 — Kevin A. Weibel, 46, of Eau Claire was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his motorcycle crashed into an embankment and rolled onto its side on Main Street tin St. Petersburg. Weibel, who was not wearing a helmet, was not hurt.July 3 — A mailbox was smashed on Burns Farm Road in Toby Township. The vandalism occurred July 2 or 3.
11:53 p.m. Tuesday — A car ended up crashing into a house in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.The wreck happened after a pickup truck driven by Alan K. Haswell, 39, of Ellwood City rear-ended the car that 72-year-old Sally Casuccio was driving on Ellwood Road just south of Hogue Road.Police said Casuccio was slowing to turn into the driveway of her home when her car was hit. The collision forced the car off the road and into her house. No injuries were reported.Haswell, according to a police report, was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.
