Police ID man killed in auto wreck

Donald Stewart

BUTLER TWP — Police have released the name of the man killed Tuesday afternoon when the car he was driving slammed into a tree along Delwood Road.

Donald J. Stewart, 36, of Chicora was pronounced dead at Butler Memorial Hospital following the wreck about 12:15 p.m.

An autopsy determined he died of internal injuries, said Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr. Results of toxicology tests are pending.

Butler Township police said Stewart was westbound when for an unknown reason he lost control of his 2012 Kia Forte. The car traveled across the eastbound lane and went off the road, hitting a pine tree.

He was unresponsive but reportedly had a pulse when emergency responders found him. Police and Butler Ambulance Service crew members removed him from the severely damaged vehicle.

A paramedic and emergency medical technician for Butler Fire Department helped ambulance workers perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The Mercer Road Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

Investigators said they found suspected drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

The wreck closed a portion of the road until about 1:40 p.m.
