Woman accused of wild night ending with spitting in a trooper’s mouth
A Lyndora woman is being accused of assaulting state troopers while being arrested Sunday afternoon for a possible DUI.
State police filed two sets of charges Sunday against Karen E. Christy, 56, including two felony counts of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of DUI and disorderly conduct.
Following her arraignment by District Judge Lewis Stoughton, Christy was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Police were called around 2:20 p.m. Sunday to TJ’s Hideaway for a reported disturbance.
A woman at the bar told police Christy was speaking loudly and throwing items at her. Police said they reviewed security footage and confirmed the claims. Police said they also were told Christy was drunk, and the footage showed her getting into an SUV and driving away.
Police said a man let troopers into Christy’s home to speak with her.
“Christy refused to answer questions,” the investigating trooper stated in the affidavit. “Christy had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath.”
Police said as they continued trying to talk with Christy about her possible intoxication, her demeanor devolved.
“(She) began to scream several curse words at (the troopers) while approaching,” police said. “(She) continued stepping closer to the (one trooper) getting within an estimated 18 to 24 inches from his face.”
Police said when Christy raised her fist, police tried to restrain her and put her in handcuffs.
“(Christy) then grabbed (one trooper) by the hand and dug her nails in, causing two small cuts which began to bleed,” police said.
Police said troopers led Christy outside, and the trooper whose hand was uninjured began talking with the man who was also at the home. Police said during that time, Christy spat in his mouth.
According to the affidavit, Christy later refused to have her blood tested for the DUI investigation.
Christy will appear for a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
