Assistance available in aftermath of flood

The city of Butler is asking any residents of the areas affected by flooding who have not been contacted by the American Red Cross, to call 211.

The city’s public works department will pick up items destroyed by the flooding that are placed by the curb, according to a news release.

Anyone in the city or the township who needs to have appliances hauled away can call 724-525-0137.

A flier will be distributed to residents later this week about a hazardous materials pickup for items such as paint cans.

First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., is collecting cleaning supplies, especially degreaser, garbage bags and mops, all this week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Dumpsters this week can be found at: Shiloh Baptist Church on Hayes Avenue, the parking lot behind Battery Warehouse on West Cunningham Street and at the main entrance to Broad Street Elementary School.

Anyone needing information about financial assistance for repairs not covered by insurance can call the Center for Community Resources at 724-431-3748.

Anyone wishing to donate an item to those affected by the flooding can visit a page titled “Helping Butler County” on Facebook to fill out a donation form.

Monetary donations may be made to the United Way by calling 724-285-4883.
