Butler sprint relay wins national title
Butler’s sprint medley relay team won a national title Sunday while competing at the Adidas Indoor Nationals in Virginia Beach.
The quartet of Brayden Young, Lucas Slear, Guinness Brown and Ryder Kriley won with a time of 3 minutes, 21.24 seconds. Young and Slear ran 200-meter portions while Brown ran 400 meters and Kriley 800.
Their time is the seventh-fastest in the country for that event.
The same foursome returned to the track Sunday to place second in the 4x400 relay. Their time of 3:21.55 easily beat their previous school record of 3:24.897.
Brown placed sixth in the 400-meter race with a time of 22.01 seconds, becoming a three-time All-American. The top six placers in each event earned All-American honors.
The Golden Tornado’s 4x200 relay finished eighth, but broke its own school record. Brown, Brayden Young, Presley Ornelas and Slear ran the relay in 1:29.93, snapping their own previous school record of 1:31.12.
Bowling
Butler’s girls finished sixth and the Golden Tornado boys seventh at the Pa. High School Team Championships Saturday. The top four boys and girls teams entered the playoffs to determine the champion.
Freeport’s girls finished 10th.
Neshaminy defeated Shikellamy 2-0 in the girls title match. Central York downed Spring Grove 2-1 to claim the boys championship.
Butler’s girls rolled a 3,173 team series, 95 pins short of qualifying for the playoff. Freeport rolled a 3,077. Natalie Coughenour led the Golden Tornado with a 192 game and 521 series. Kelsee McConnell had a 181-516.
Mackensie Livingston led the Yellowjackets with a 198-491.
Butler’s boys rolled a 3,705 series, 51 pins short of qualifying. Rocco Rice had a 200-585 and Brock Hepler a 199-512.
