Duo avoids prison time in sentences
Two men who supplied drugs to a Mercer Township man who later died of a drug and alcohol overdose have been sentenced — neither will serve jail time.
Glenn A. Streets, 35, of Jackson Center, Mercer County, and Charles L. Kinney, 59, of Slippery Rock each pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance, a felony.
Investigators accused Streets of supplying an unspecified amount of liquid methadone to Michael Mershimer, 45, of Mercer Township during a Steelers party at a home in Harrisville on Oct. 2, 2011.
Kinney provided the prescription painkiller Vicodin, and court records say at least one pill was given to Mershimer at the same party.
Mershimer died on a couch in the garage.
An autopsy determined Mershimer died accidentally of “combined methadone and ethanol (alcohol) intoxication,” according to the Butler County Coroner’s office. But the autopsy also found that Mershimer suffered from an enlarged heart and coronary artery disease that could have contributed to his death.
Streets on Thursday was sentenced to serve 3 to 6 months in prison, according to court records. However, he was immediately paroled to serve 100 days on house arrest with electronic monitoring. His parole will be followed by 18 months of probation.
Kinney, who was sentenced Oct. 28, will serve three years of probation, according to court records.
County Judge William Shaffer presided over both cases.
