PROGRAMS AT ALAMEDA
Here are some of the scheduled activities this summer at Alameda Park which is run by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department.
• Thursdays from June 11 to Aug. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to noon — Alameda Story Time Adventures. Participants will read “Charlotte’s Web,” followed by Stuart Little” at the Rotary Shelter.
• June 11 at 6:30 p.m. — Alameda Park: Butler’s Disneyland with Bill May. A 60 minute slide show, discussing the park’s past as an amusement park, full of rare photographs, video clips and tales told by May at the Carousel Shelter.
• June 18 at 6:30 p.m. — Nature and Kids Expo from Penn State Extension. A nature presentation at the Carousel Shelter. Children will learn about trees at the park and can go on a hike and do a craft.
• July 2 at 6:30 p.m. — Mammals and More! Moraine State Park rangers will provide an educational program about animals at the Carousel Shelter.
• July 9 at 6:30 p.m. — AL-Mazing Magic. A magician from Pittsburgh will perform for children and families at the Carousel Shelter.
• July 16 at 6:30 p.m. — PaWSAR. The group will give demonstrations with rescue dogs, addressing topics such as basic survival skills, emergency shelter building, signaling and backcountry safety at the Carousel Shelter.
• July 23 at 7 p.m. — Surfs up. A beginners course in stand up paddle boarding will be offered at Alameda Water Park. Participants should bring a bathing suit and towel.
• July 30 at 6:30 p.m. — Honey Hero’s. Presenters from the Jennings Environmental Education Center will discuss the importance of bees at the Carousel Shelter.
• Aug. 1 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. — “Frozen” pool party. Alameda Water Park will offer a meet and greet with characters from the movie, as well as swimming, snow cones and a showing of the movie at 8:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $5.
• Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m. — Creek Creatures. A stream study of the park will be presented by Moraine State Park rangers at the Carousel Shelter. Participants should wear boots, or shoes that can get wet.
• Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m. — The Biddle Boys: The Escape and Death of Butler County’s Most Notorious Outlaws. Bill May will present the story of outlaws Ed and Jack Biddle, who escaped jail in Allegheny County and were caught near Prospect in 1901. The presentation, featuring rare photographs and details, will take place at the Carousel Shelter.
