Ohio man sought in local robbery, assault on woman

Police are looking for a vehicle and the man who allegedly stole it from a Butler woman.

Butler City Police filed charges Monday against Zachari L. Roth, 38, of Columbus, Ohio, who police said beat a Butler woman until she gave him the keys to her Black Nissan Altima with the license plate LFA4836.

Charges include felony counts of robbery of a vehicle, robbery and aggravated assault.

According to charging documents, an ambulance crew called police to an apartment on East Penn Street, where they were treating a woman.

Police said once at the scene the woman reported that Roth had stolen her vehicle and her phone.

“While speaking with (the woman) in the ambulance, I observed multiple wounds on her head and face consistent in my training and experience with having been sustained in the past day or two,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit. “I asked (her) about the injuries, and she began to tear up.”

Police said while at the hospital, the woman told staff more about her injuries, and police were called to collect a report.

In the emergency room, the woman told police Roth had been at her home since Thursday and fell asleep in her living room.

“(She) advised that she had not wanted him there, but she had felt fearful to ask him to leave,” police said.

According to the affidavit, the woman told officers that Roth asked her for the keys to her car, so he could go “make a deal.” She told police Roth sold crack cocaine.

The woman told police she refused because she needed her car for work, and in response Roth grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face multiple times. The woman told police she was then dragged to the ground by her hair, and Roth then kicked her multiple times.

“(The woman) was visibly shaken while recounting this story,” police said.

Police said photographs were taken of the woman’s injuries, and the vehicle was entered as stolen into the National Crime Information Center.

Once arrested, Roth will be arraigned on the charges and scheduled for a preliminary hearing.
