Brunch to honor outstanding woman
BUTLER TWP — The Victim Outreach Intervention Center on Oct. 25 will present the Hestia Award during a brunch at Butler County Community College’s Founders Hall.
The Hestia Award recognizes an outstanding woman whose life has had a positive impact on Butler County.
This year’s finalists are former Butler County Commissioner Joan Chew, Cecelia Foster of the Community Health Clinic of Butler County, Mary Jo Grinder of Connecting2Tomorrow, Brenda Shaffer of VA Butler Healthcare and Marsha Wagner of the Center for Community Resources.
Margaret Irvine Weir, former president of NexTier Bank, will be the keynote speaker.
Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. The event also will have door prizes and a basket raffle.

Heroes Among Us raises more than $2K
Parker — A Heroes Among Us rally for both Wounded Warriors and the Butler Breast Cancer Support Group on Oct. 4 raised more than $2,000.
Ron Thompson of Parker, who helped host the event with his wife, Debbie, said about 160 people attended the rally at the Six Points Church of God of Prophecy in Parker.
It featured food, door prizes and an auction, a three-mile walk/run, games and entertainment.
