Board OKs lease for fitness equipment

Butler Senior High School will be getting new cardio equipment.

Butler School Board voted unanimously at Monday night's meeting to enter a five-year lease agreement with Advantage Sports and Fitness at a total cost of $67,826, or $13,565 per year.

The district's business manager, Nick Morelli, said the district could renew the lease at the end of the term or buy the equipment at an adjusted cost.

The “current equipment is in bad shape,” Morelli said. “This is high-end equipment. They use it at college levels.”

The new equipment would be available for athletes and the students in gym classes. He said the athletic department has already discussed ways to keep track of the equipment's condition.

“We talked about bringing in guys a little more regularly to check on the equipment and make sure that it's safe,” Morelli said.

Morelli said it could take about three weeks for the equipment to arrive.
