Butler Vo-tech receives state grant to purchase equipment

The Butler County Vocational-Technical School has received a $79,680 state grant to buy equipment for several programs.

Regina Hiler, executive director, highlighted the grant at the school's joint operating committee meeting April 1.

The money will be used to purchase a torque kit and system for the auto technology program, dent-removal kits for the auto body program, a wood lathe and jointer for the carpentry program, a high-pressure vehicle bag system for the protective services program and a vital signs monitor for the health assistant program.

In another matter, a hot water tank in which Legionella bacteria was found during water testing in February is now testing negative for the bacteria after it was drained, flushed, sanitized and refilled, Hiler said.

No students or staff reported health problems, she said.

Testing was conducted Feb. 26 and confirmed results were given to the administration two weeks later. Follow-up testing and another retest identified the tank or an attached hose as the source of the bacteria, she said.

Two tests conducted after the tank was drained and cleaned were negative for the bacteria, she said.

Hiler also told committee members that the school's $6,075,289 budget for 2021-22 has been unanimously approved by the school boards of all seven school districts in the county that send students to the Vo-tech.
