CLINTON TWP — A 46-year-old man suffered spinal and head injuries and several broken bones Friday evening in a fall from a second-story window at his family’s home in the 300 block of Freeport Street, relatives and emergency crews said.

A medical helicopter flew the man to a Pittsburgh hospital where he was to undergo surgery today for his injured spine, according to a family member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

State police are investigating but a report was not available this morning.

The family member said the victim was bending over the window when he accidentally tumbled out, falling about 15 feet to the ground.

In addition to the spinal and head injuries, the man suffered a broken nose, arm and ribs. He underwent an MRI on Friday night at Mercy Hospital, the relative said.

The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company and Saxonburg Ambulance were called. A firefighter said the man was “in and out” of consciousness while being treated at the scene.

An ambulance crew drove him to the fire company’s carnival grounds on Horne Avenue in Saxonburg, where a STAT MedEvac helicopter landed before flying the man to the hospital.
