CRANBERRY TWP — Township supervisors will vote on a conditional use application for a business seeking permission to use eight “amusement devices” at its existing space.

The application was filed by Skill Games 777, an amusement arcade in Excel Center at 20455 Route 19 and was at the center of a public hearing at the township supervisors’ Aug. 27 agenda preparation meeting.

Supervisors will vote on the application at their Oct. 1 meeting.

The August hearing covered whether the request was in compliance with the June 15 Pennsyvania Supreme Court ruling that skill games are slot machines governed by the state’s Gaming Act and Crimes Code and are illegal.The eight devices are operating at the business’s location.

Attorneys for Skill Games 777 argued that the request meets all requirements of the township’s zoning ordinance and current Pennsylvania law, and that if the devices become officially illegal after a 120-day window of inaction, they can be easily replaced with something else.

The township’s legal representation said irrespective of the 120-day window, the devices have been deemed to fall within the purview of gambling regulations, and the township does not have the ability to provide use for something the state has deemed illegal.
