Butler City Council approves purchase, installation of farmers’ market bollards
The City of Butler is taking steps to improve safety in the Butler City Farmers’ Market parking lot with the purchase of bollards.
City council voted 4-0 during its meeting Thursday evening, Sept. 24, to approve the purchase and installation of bollards in the farmers’ market parking lot. The project will be completed by Troy Jay Construction at a cost of $18,034.
Mayor Bob Dandoy explained that the parking lot’s construction left a several-inch drop-off at the edge of the lot that several people have driven into.
“You can’t really see it if you look out over the concrete, so people keep either mistakenly driving off or thinking ‘I can make this’ and they bottom out. It’s pretty nasty,” he said.
He said the city has temporary measures in place to stop drivers, but wants to put a more permanent solution into place.
City zoning officer John Evans said the work will be completed as soon as possible, but estimated it would be complete in the next 60 to 90 days.
Dandoy said other safety improvements will be taking place, such as painting the curbs in the lot.
The next Butler City Council meeting is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 8.
