SV wrestler Volk-Klos in PIAA semifinals

Seneca Valley senior Liam Volk-Klos reached the semifinal round of the PIAA Class AAA Wrestling Tournament Friday at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Wrestling at 215 pounds, Volk-Klos (24-2) decisioned John Parro of Kennett, 7-4, in the quarterfinals. He will face Brian Finnerty of Thomas Jefferson in the semifinal round Saturday morning.

The Raiders’ Tyler Chappell (34-5) lost his 113-pound quarterfinal match to Cole Campbell of Bethlehem Catholic, 9-2. He bounced back in the consolation round, scoring a 2-0 decision over James Garcia of Wilson.

Butler heavyweight Jake Pomykata stayed alive in the consolation bracket, pinning Trevor Gitski of Emmaus in 4:06. Pomykata then wrestled Oliver Billotte of Clearfield, dropping an 8-4 decision.

Bowling

No Butler County bowlers advanced to the state tournament as the Western Pa. Girls Singles Championships took place Friday.

Freeport’s Mackensie Luivingston placed 15th, bowling a 242 game and a five-game series of 842. The top 12 bowlers advanced to the state competition.

Natalie Coughenour was Butler’s highest finisher, rolling a 196-815 for 19th place. The Golden Tornado’s Harley Kriess and Kelsee McConnell were 33rd and 34th, respectively, at 183-7777 and 175-775.
