Community Day Saturday
ADAMS TWP — Fun, free food, fundraisers, fireworks and more will entertain those who attend Adams Township Community Day on Saturday.
The celebration will begin at noon and continue until the end of the fireworks that evening. The events will be at Community Park on Valencia Road.
Corry Bogdanich, who is a member of the township parks and recreation committee, said the kickoff will be at 12:15 p.m. when the Mars High School band plays “The Star Spangled Banner” near the township war memorial. The band will march to the event stage to perform.
Bogdanich said free food and soft drinks will be available at the Rotary pavilion from noon to 3 p.m. She said the committee buys 1,000 hot dogs and 60 pounds of pork for the event.
Bouncers, a petting zoo and the Gymagic bus will be there all day at the playground near the township pavilion in the rear of the park.
A horseshoe tournament will be held, and anyone can participate by signing up at the venue.
A large tent will keep bingo players cool near the Rotary pavilion.
There also will be nonprofit booths set up. Various organizations will sell foods as fundraising efforts.
Bogdanich said proceeds from the food sales will support the groups.
Talent appearing onstage will be the Mars Stars Jump Rope Team, the Mars High School cheerleaders, The Sweet Beats and Melody Molinaro giving a musical performance, and the band Dizzy Whoosh.
Weird Eric will stroll the grounds doing magic and creating balloon art, and baseball games will be ongoing at Veterans Field to the north of the municipal building.
At dusk, Thunder Over Adams will start. It is a fireworks show that has had people spilling out of the park and onto adjacent property.
Bogdanich said the theme for this year’s show is “full throttle.” The music will be broadcast on 88.7 FM so those on adjacent property can see the display and enjoy the music.
Township Supervisor Linda Lees said she looks forward to Community Day each year, especially the petting zoo.
“Some of the kids just moved in and don’t know farm animals,” she said. “That’s kind of cool.”
Lees, who has not missed a Community Day in its 16 years, also appreciates the hard work of Bogdanich and the rest of the parks and recreation committee in planning the event.
“I think they should be commended on their productivity in putting this all together,” Lees said. “It makes everyone feel like they know one another and are part of the community.”
