SOUTH BUFFALO TWP, Armstrong County — The body of a 33-year-old Allegheny County man missing for nearly a week was found Tuesday in the woods near his camp site along Dock Hollow Creek, authorities said.

Searchers looking for Donald M. Mastandrea discovered his body about 11:30 a.m., about a mile north of the Allegheny River along Dock Hollow Creek.

Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers, who pronounced Mastandrea dead at the scene, said foul play is not suspected but a cause of death was not immediately known. An autopsy was planned today.

Mastandrea’s family on Monday reported him missing to Brackenridge police, authorities said. The last contact he had with family was about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25.

Local police, firefighters and members of Mastandrea’s family formed a search party and took off looking for him Tuesday morning. His body was recovered about 200 yards north of his camp site.

Investigators do not know how long Mastandrea had been dead. No other information was immediately released by police or the coroner’s office.

Assisting in the search were South Buffalo Township and Freeport police; South Buffalo, Freeport and Harrison Hills volunteer fire departments; and the Armstrong County Sheriff’s Office.

The Armstrong County District Attorney’s Office also assisted in processing the scene.

The Bock Funeral Home in Shaler Township, Allegheny County, is handling funeral arrangements.
