New Child Advocacy Center open

Community members on Friday got a look at the brightly decorated and family-friendly new Child Advocacy Center in Center Township.

The Butler County Alliance for Children held an open house and tours of its modern new building one day after the ribbon-cutting that heralded the alliance's move from East Jefferson Street to the new digs at the intersection of Route 8 North and Mahood Road.

The larger building will allow space for support groups, meetings with team members, volunteer and intern sections and other community-related uses, said Josh Strelbicki, alliance assistant director.

The county Alliance for Children provides various services to victims of child abuse, including a multidisciplinary investigative team, forensic interviews, victim advocacy, forensic medical exams, mental health services referral, and training and prevention programs.

The new location also will offer clients more anonymity while visiting than the building in the downtown area.

The alliance serves about 200 new children per year, said Denna Hays, executive director.
