Butler Township applies for grant for Preston Park access road gates
The Butler Township commissioners approved submitting a $10,000 application to the Butler County Parks and Recreation grant program to buy gates for a new access road in Preston Park.
The application, which the commissioners approved Monday, would require a 25 percent match from the township for gates at the entrance and exit on a new road the township is planning to build in the park, said Tom Knights, township manager.
The new road would connect to an existing road and create a loop and include new parking areas.
An old iron gate the Preston family had installed in the 1950s will be permanently affixed open and used as an entrance, but the new gates will be operable. The gates will be opened when the park opens in the morning and closed when the park shuts down at dusk, Knights said.
In other business, the commissioners agreed to sell an old asphalt recycling machine that is no longer in use to the city of Canal Fulton, Ohio, for $11,000 and a salt spreader for $1,100 through a municipal bidding auction.
