Jennings Environmental Education Center is having its annual guided prairie bloom hike Sunday that will showcase a majority of the park's plant species in full bloom.

The center's staff maintains the prairie throughout the year through prescribed fires and regular trimming.

All the regular park maintenance pays off around this time each year, when the dozens of plant and flower species populating the prairie are in full bloom for a few weeks.

“We have over 30 flowers blooming now,” said Will Taylor, manager of Jennings Environmental Education Center. “Now is the time to see it. Now or over these next several weekends.”

Jennings plans an annual guided tour of the prairie to coincide with blooming season, and it is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
