Son assaults his mother after she stops car for call

Zelienople police arrested an Evans City man for allegedly attacking his mother Friday afternoon, in the parking lot of a Foxes Pizza in Harmony.

John Robert Zeitler, 49, of Evans City is charged with simple assault and harassment. He was released on a nonmonetary bail.

Police responded to reports around 5 p.m. Friday that a man had attacked his mother, who was then taking shelter in the pizza shop.

Upon their arrival, the woman told police that Zeitler was intoxicated and became angry when she pulled into the parking lot to call a friend, according to court documents.

Zeitler reportedly grabbed her arm and struck the phone from her ear, leaving red marks and a scratch under her eye.

He also reportedly told his dog to “sic grandma,” according to Patty Abbott, a witness who was working at the pizza shop.

Abbott had the woman come into the store and called 911, while Zeitler stayed in the car, according to court documents. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Oct. 23.
