The Butler junior high wrestling team won the Norwin Duals over the weekend, winning all four of its matches.
The Golden Tornado defeated Hempfield 75-24, North Allegheny Gold 64-30, Seneca Valley 52-39 and host Norwin 45-44 in the title match.
Jared Hinkle, at 95 pounds, won the final match by a 13-4 major decision to give Butler the championship.
Mason Kauffman and Will Bortmas went 4-0 with four pins for the Tornado.
Other outstanding individuals included Alex White and Austin George (3-1 with three pins); Hugh O'Neill (4-0 with a pin), Zack Hunka, Zack Raible and Jeremiah Bortmas (3-1 with two pins), and Kirk Gibson (3-1).
The Pittsburgh Huskies Bantam AA team beat the North Hills Vipers 7-4 and the Pittsburgh Predators 6-3.Dustin Davis scored twice against the Vipers, with Cam Lydick, Brandon Ritchey, Troy Double, Nick Whann and Christian Miller scoring one goal each. Goalie Parker Sherry made 10 saves.Jason Edsall scored two goals against the Predators, and Davis, Double, Ritchey and Miller had one each. Goalie Clay Bachman made 13 saves for the Huskies (17-4-2).
Three gymnasts from the Elite Athletic Center in Butler fared well at a Saturday meet hosted by the Pittsburgh North Stars.Jake Minton, competing at Level 6, ages 12-13, placed first in parallel bars, second in floor and vault, third on pommel horse and first in all-around with an 82.9. Connor Minto was second in vault in Level 4, age 8.Jack Codispot, in Level 6, ages 8-9, placed second in vault, parallel bars and high bar.
Butler Catholic suffered an 18-14 loss to Assumption Saturday. Mary McConnell scored seven points, and Annie Hegedus and Christina Friel had four each.Butler Catholic's junior varsity dropped a 22-11 decision. Sophia Wiest scored six points, Emily Hegedus four and Erin LeMay one.
