3:11 a.m. Wednesday — Larry Paul Curtis, 38, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Police said Curtis also was cited for driving with a suspended license and driving at an unsafe speed.Wednesday — Police accused John Locke, 48, no known address, of stealing $22 from a New Castle Street apartment where he was attending a New Year's Eve party last week.When Locke was confronted by others after allegedly taking the money from a table, he picked up a bottle of wine and left. He then threw the bottle at the door, a police report said, breaking the plexi-glass window.Locke is charged with theft and criminal mischief.
3:09 a.m. Wednesday — A silver Ford Explorer struck a mailbox and embankment before becoming airborne and landing on its side along Greenwood Drive across from Rock Ann Haven. Police said the driver fled the scene after the hit-and-run crash. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.Tuesday — Someone between 5 and 7 p.m. broke into an apartment through a first-floor window at Old Plank Estates. It appeared that nothing was taken.
Wednesday — Police are asking for the public's help to find the person who recently broke into a red donation box at the exit of the Memorial Park in Grove City. An unknown amount of money was taken from the box in the theft between Nov. 27 and Dec. 1.Anyone with information is urged to call police at 724-458-7925
10:58 a.m. Wednesday — A pickup driven by Donald L. Bauman, 80, of Saxonburg struck a mailbox and utility pole after sliding off snow-covered Route 356 near Great Belt Road in Jefferson Township. Joanne Bauman, 76, of Saxonburg, a passenger, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.9:25 p.m. Tuesday — Rachel E. Zimmerman, 33, of Saxonburg was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after her pickup rolled over on Victory Road in Clinton Township.11:05 a.m. Sunday — A Westmoreland County woman and young child suffered head injuries in a one-car crash on Knoch Road in Clinton Township.Alene L. Pauls, 24, of New Kensington lost control of the car on the snow-covered road, traveled up an embankment and hit a utility pole. She and a 4-year-old boy riding in the car were taken to Allegheny General Hospital and Children's Hospital, respectively, in Pittsburgh with moderate injuries.Police said Pauls was cited for not wearing a seat belt. The boy, according to a police report, was secured in a chid safety seat.8:57 p.m. Saturday — Seth Joseph Meisel, 31, of Prospect was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 488 in Prospect.6:03 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Gregory H. Wilson of Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, struck a deer on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township.5:10 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by a 17-year-old Butler boy, who police did not identify, struck a sport utility vehicle on Route 356 in Jefferson Township.The car went off the road, struck an embankment and hit two mailboxes and large landscaping stones in a home's yard.Police said the boy was cited in the crash for illegally passing another vehicle. Emma V. Neely, 21, of Butler was driving the SUV.Saturday — Someone between noon and 5 p.m. stole a black, Honda all-terrain vehicle at a home in the 300 block of Stoney Hollow Road in Winfield Township.
Tuesday — An unknown burglar overnight stole an argon gas bottle and a Lincoln electrical welder from the Shady Side maintenance building at Mak Square in Worthington.
10:40 a.m. Tuesday — An unknown thief was caught trying to steal an old scrap transmission from a storage shed at Carlson Mining on Mill Bridge Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.Police said the suspect, a white man in his 50s, was spotted attempting to load the property into the trunk of a white, four-door Ford. When the business owner confronted the man, he dropped the transmission and drove away.
