Alec Geibel and Mark Gross scored 23 and 20 points, respectively, to power the Butler ninth-grade boys basketball team (9-3) to a 50-43 victory over Central Catholic.
• Chris McConnell scored 18 points, and John Ferguson had 12 points to lead the Butler Catholic boys varsity to a 55-29 triumph over Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament School.
• Annie Hegedus and Christina Friel had 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the Butler Catholic girls varsity’s 29-15 win over Providence Heights Alpha School.
In the junior varsity game, Emily Hegedus scored 16 points in a Butler Catholic 46-11 victory over Alpha.
WrestlingWill Bortmas and Austin George were champions in their respective weight classes to help the Butler junior high team place second at the 17-team Greater Latrobe Tournament Saturday.Hugh O’Neil, Connor Foust and Ryan Hannon all finished in second place while Jeremiah Bortmas was third, Mason Kauffman and David Slomers were fourth, Alex White fifth and Kirk Gibson sixth.
HockeyThe Pittsburgh Huskies Bantam AA team (24-10-3) defeated the Armstrong Arrows 8-0 and Butler Valley Dawgs 4-0 recently.Against the Arrows, Troy Double and Dustin Davis recorded two goals apiece while Cam Lydick, Tyler Hudak, Nick Whann and Brandon Ritchey added one goal each. Parker Sherry had 12 saves to earn the shutout.Against the Dawgs, Double, Ritchey, Christian Miller and Matt Tomasovic scored, and goalie Clay Bachman stopped 14 shots.
