[naviga:h3]Streets to close due to festival[/naviga:h3]

The city has announced street closures for the Butler Italian Festival, set for Friday through Sunday.

No parking signs will be posted and vehicles in violation will be ticketed and towed, according to police.

On Friday, Main Street will close at 2 p.m. with the event starting at 5 p.m. and will reopen at 10 p.m. Main Street will also be closed from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Traffic to be detoured at Jefferson Street and Penn Street.

According to event organizers, the following side streets will be closed during the event, between Jefferson and Pearl streets, WISR Way, Walnut, Locust, New Castle, Brady, North and Penn.

City parking areas, except for the McKean Street parking garage, will be free, event organizers said.

[naviga:h3]Farmers market open Saturday[/naviga:h3]

The Butler City Farmers Market, 205 S. Chestnut St., will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It features 10-11 vendors.

The market is managed by Butler Downtown and proceeds are used to fund the entertainment.

The market is also currently featuring organic vendors and meat, eggs, cheese, vinegar and oil, tea and coffee, household supplies and plants.

[naviga:h3]GOP Women to open new HQ[/naviga:h3]

CRANBERRY TWP — Republican Women of Butler County will host a grand opening of its new campaign headquarters from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Murray Building, 20232 Route 19.

Attending the event will be U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-3rd, who is running for re-election in the new 16th District; Glen “G.T.” Thompson, R-5th, running for re-election in the new 15th District; and Keith Rothfus, R-12, running for re-election in the new 17th District.

The headquarters will be host to campaign volunteers for the three incumbents and will remain open until Nov. 9.

[naviga:h3]Alameda pool closes Sunday[/naviga:h3]

Alameda Waterpark will close for the season on Sunday.

The county Parks and Recreation Department announced that the doors will be open from 12:15 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, weather permitting, before closing until next spring.
