The Butler Redevelopment Authority Thursday held the second and final hearing on its application for a $296,249 Community Development Block Grant that would be used for street paving, code enforcement and the final payment on a fire truck.

No residents attended the hearing or submitted written comments on the application, which city council will consider at its Oct. 25 meeting.

If council approves the application it will be submitted to the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

The application seeks $188,017 for street reconstruction and construction of new curb ramps for people with disabilities.

The streets that would be reconstructed are:

Euclid Avenue from South Main Street to Morton Avenue

Cottage Hill Avenue from South Main Street to Morton Avenue

Sumner Avenue from Garfield to Morton avenues

South Main Street from East Muntz to East Patterson avenues

Spang Avenue from Fairview to Walker avenues.

Four new curb ramps would be constructed on Euclid Avenue, two would be constructed on Cottage Hill Avenue, four would be constructed on Sumner Avenue and two would be constructed on South Main Street.

The application also requests $50,000 for the code enforcement officer’s salary and benefits, $53,324 for authority salaries, auditing, planning and legal services and $4,908 for the final payment on the fire department’s rescue/pumper truck.

Homeless awareness

The authority also agreed the let the Butler County Human Services’ Local Housing Options Team use an authority-owned vacant lot at 150 S. Main St. from noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 16 for a “Couches Don’t Count” homeless awareness event.

The housing options team will place a couch in the lot and invite people to sit with them to talk about homelessness, and to collect donations.
