Emergency crews free driver in crash
SUMMIT TWP — A two-vehicle crash on Herman Road near its intersection with Protzman Road briefly shut traffic down Thursday afternoon, as emergency responders worked to extricate one of the drivers from their vehicle.
State police said the crash, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m., happened when one of the vehicles — an orange Dodge Caliber that was traveling west on Herman Road — crossed the center line and collided with a black Hyundai Elantra that was traveling east on the road. Both vehicles sustained severe damage to their front driver’s sides; the Dodge’s front left wheel was ripped off and lodged beneath the Hyundai’s front bumper.
As of this morning, police had not yet released the names of the people involved in the crash.
The driver of the Hyundai was trapped in her vehicle after the crash, and was extricated and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital as a precaution, after complaining of chest pains, state police said.
The driver of the Dodge and a passenger in her vehicle were both being evaluated on the scene by emergency responders. Police said that no one appeared to have been seriously injured in the crash.
