JACKSON TWP — A two-term member of the Seneca Valley School Board announced Monday that he will not run for re-election, and will leave the board when his current term expires on Dec. 31, 2017.

James Welsh said that he hopes someone else will step up to fill the seat he’s going to vacate at the end of this year. Welsh said he announced his intention to step away to give any interested people time to organize their own election efforts.

Welsh said he was stepping away after eight years because he feels it’s time for someone else to step up and contribute a fresh perspective and ideas to the district.

“It’s just my time’s up,” Welsh said. “Two terms, eight years; that’s good enough.”

He said he will miss working with the board’s other members, but believes the board’s current membership represents diverse constituencies and is intent on making positive changes within the district.

“I’ll miss being part of the positive change and actually seeing these guys,” he said. “It’s been a pleasure.”

Welsh was last elected in 2013, running unopposed for the district’s Region 9 seat that represents Jackson Township and Harmony and Callery boroughs.
