Butler Township Police
Tuesday — Mark A. Fernandez, 37, of Canton, Ohio, was arrested stemming from a shoplifting incident at the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons. Fernandez walked out of the store with $729 in merchandise that he didn’t pay for, according to a police report.
He was arraigned on charges of theft and receiving stolen property, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $7,500 bail.
10 p.m. Saturday — Robert Steffler, 50, of Butler and Joshua Galyk, 22, of Kittanning were arrested following an altercation at Old Plank Estates. Both men are charged with simple assault and harassment.
9:50 p.m. Saturday — Jeffrey Blystone, 48, of Butler is accused of causing two separate disturbances at the Butler Memorial Hospital emergency room. Police said they charged Blystone with disorderly conduct.
6:59 p.m. Saturday — An unknown thief stole money out of a purse accidentally mislaid at the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons. The woman discovered money missing from a wallet when she returned to the store to get her purse.
8:03 p.m. Friday — A sport vehicle driven by Raymond Miller, 42, of Butler sideswiped another vehicle on South Benbrook Road at the Route 422 overpass, and did not stop after the crash. Police said they cited Miller for hit-and-run, failing to stop and render aid after an accident and several other traffic violations.
3:26 p.m. Thursday — Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction accident on Route 68 near Barracks Road. The crash happened when a car driven by Tyler Lynch, 27, of Butler struck the back of a vehicle driven by Mike Kasarda, 88, of Butler.
In turn, police said, Kasarda’s vehicle was pushed into the rear of a vehicle driven by Barnett Selling, 55, of Cranberry Township.
Lynch and his passenger, Rebecca Sciulli, no age or address given, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
Police said Lynch was cited for driving at an unsafe speed and Kasarda was cited for driving with a suspended license.
3:37 p.m. Dec. 21 — A car driven by Daniel Schaeffer, 22, of Valencia rear-ended another vehicle on North Eberhart Road. Jonathan Ritenour was the other driver.
Adams Township Police
Dec. 20 — Police filed drunken driving charges against Martin J. Irwin, 22, of Harmony stemming from a crash about 1 a.m. Dec. 17 on Route 228. Irwin is charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license
Jackson Township Police
10:45 p.m. Thursday — Marc P. Himmelwright, 24, and Carrie A. Lawther, 33, were arrested following a domestic dispute at their Lake Road home. Police said both suspects suffered minor injuries in the altercation.
Himmelwright and Lawther are charged with disorderly conduct and harassment. Additionally, Lawther is charged with simple assault. The defendants are free on $3,000 bail each.
State Police, Butler9:32 p.m. Monday — An Armstrong County teenager was hurt when the car she was riding in struck a utility pole at Winfield Road and Edgewood Drive in Winfield Township. Tera L. Curtis, 18, of Kittanning, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a moderate leg injury.Curtis was treated at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, Allegheny County.Police said Daniel R. Waltenbaugh, 22, of Ford City, Armstrong County, was cited for a lane violation.8:30 p.m. Saturday — An unknown hit-and-run driver in an older model, red pickup truck with a high suspension struck a car on Seven Hills Road in Concord Township. William J. Kaiser, 24, of Butler was driving the car.Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.
State Police, Mercer4:30 p.m. Dec. 18 — Mark A. Orben, 52, of Jackson Center was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his car struck a guardrail on George Junior Road in Pine Township.6:45 p.m. Dec. 17 — An unidentified vehicle struck a sport utility vehicle in a hit-and-run crash on Route 258 near the Sheetz store in Pine Township. Jeremy B. McGuigan, 31, of Hickory, Washington County, was driving the SUV.
