Knoch back with Black Runner lifts Knights to sixth place
Artie Black finished 11th with a time of 16 minutes, 49 seconds to help the Knoch boys cross country team to a sixth-place finish in the 54-team Tri-State Coaches Meet at Slippery Rock University Thursday.
Kyle Reeping placed 18th and Ben Hutterer was 38th for the Knights.
The Butler boys were 10th, with Steven Monnie coming in 34th place with a time of 17:15.
Chris Cipro paced Seneca Valley's 18th place finish, coming in 27th with a time of 17:05.
On the girls side, Megan Powell finished 16th for Seneca Valley with a time of 19:39. That helped the Raiders place fifth in the meet.
Kelsey Sullivan was 30th for Seneca Valley.
Jessica Vernon paced Butler's 14th place finish, placing 40th with a time of 20:20.

Freeport's Brendan Reilly (17:25) and Melanie Lutz (20:05) took the top spots in the boys and girls competitions, respectively, as both Yellowjacket teams prevailed in a meet with Ford City, Laurel, Kittanning and Knoch.
Knoch entered its junior varsity team in the boys race and the Knights finished in second place, with Vince Moxie taking the fourth spot with a time of 18:34.
On the girls side, Knoch's Alyssa Kunkel led the Knights with a fourth-place time of 22:27.

Marisa Glew's 83 led the Mars girls at the WPIAL championships as the Planets finished in third place with a 366 behind Peters Township and Upper St. Clair at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.Lauren Glew tallied an 84, Brittany Jones had a 92, Corrine Dye managed a 107 and Megan Gibson a 108. Each team's top four scores were counted toward the total.Glew will compete at the PIAA individual state finals Monday and Tuesday at Springwood Golf Course in York.

Slippery Rock 3, Hickory 1 —Brittney Miller had one goal and two assists and Brittany Freiters and Kelsey Drennan one goal apiece and a strong defensive effort helped lead the Rockets to the division title.Slippery Rock (12-0) will play at Mercer Monday.
Slippery Rock 7, Sharon 0 —Ryan Gerken scored two goals for the Rockets, while Matt Durso, Mike Ramirez, Craig Bicehouse, Jarod Agostino and Tyler Mohler scored one each.Matthew Doerr and Dusty Hribal recorded assists.The Rockets play at Kennedy Catholic Saturday.
