Unbeaten local gridders play on
Once the tryptophan wears off from the Thanksgiving feast, there will be three pretty darn good high school football playoff games to digest this weekend.
For the WPIAL and District 10, it's championship time.
Knoch finds itself in the WPIAL championship game for the first time since 1992 when it takes on Montour at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heinz Field.
Grove City will take on Cathedral Prep for the third year in a row in the District 10 Class AAA title clash in Erie Friday night.
Should both Knoch and Grove City win, that would set up a battle between the two teams next week.
Boy, wouldn't that be something?
And Moniteau, which won its first District 9 title last week, travels to Pittsburgh to take on Class AA City League representative Oliver at Cupples Stadium Friday night.
Three post-turkey-day games with all the fixin's. Who's hungry for some picks?

Knoch 20, Montour 19 — The Knights have seemed to be destined to reach this game. Now that it is here, can Knoch finish the job?As President Obama would say, “Yes they can.”Montour was in this game last season and lost, but it was a mild surprise that it reached Heinz Field again. The Knights survived a slobber-Knocher with Franklin Regional to get to this game.In reality, they have survived much, much more.I can't see this JuggerKnoch stopping any time soon. This will be another close game, but the Knights prevail.•
Moniteau 44, Oliver 10 — This is one of those inter-district pre-PIAA playoff games.Oliver comes in with a 3-7 record. Moniteau is rolling at 11-0. Beyond that noticeable difference, the Warriors are potent on both sides of the ball.No one can block defensive end Joey Deal. No one.On offense, it seems no one can contain Moniteau's weapons. Kyle Armagost is close to 100 percent now. Dustin Geagan is a game-breaker at halfback and Ethan Pry can break the game open at wide receiver.Moniteau should have no problem beating Oliver, despite the Bears' rugged non-conference schedule this year.•
Grove City 30, Cathedral Prep 23 — In District 10, this is the Game of the Century. All season, people have anticipated this matchup for the district crown and neither team disappointed.Grove City has nearly outscored its opponents this season by 500 points. Prep may have two losses, but they came against Quad-A McDowell and Ohio power Cleveland St. Ignatius. On paper, the Eagles have more firepower and are hungry after losses to the Ramblers in the last two district title games. This is Grove City's year.Scoop wishes everyone a happy Thanksgiving.
