BC3 instructor will face trial on sex charges

A community college instructor arrested in a human trafficking sting in Ohio will face trial on charges he tried to solicit a minor for sex.

The Mahoning County, Ohio, grand jury indicted Jarod Mills of New Castle, a former Butler County Community College instructor, on four counts on Dec. 17. Mills is charged with attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony, as well as fifth-degree felonies importuning, disseminating matter harmful or obscene to juveniles and possessing criminal tools.

Mills, 34, was arrested in October as part of Operation Autumn Hope, an Ohio anti-human trafficking operation with the stated goals of rescuing victims of trafficking, recovering missing and exploited children, apprehending those seeking to have sex with minors and arresting men seeking to buy sex. More than 150 people were arrested as part of the operation, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.

Little information is available as to the specifics surrounding Mills' arrest, but according to Ohio court documents he was arrested at a house in Canfield, southwest of Youngstown, around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22.

Shortly after learning of Mills' arrest, BC3 placed Mills on administrative leave and assigned his then-current class, which was being taught remotely, to another instructor, BC3 spokesman Bill Foley said in October.

Mills has been out of the Mahoning County Jail since Oct. 23 on $10,000 bail.
